n case you missed one of my other recent posts (Quarter 3 Planning for my Creative Business in 2022), this is the next in my “get all the thoughts out of my head and onto the screen” blog posts.
To be honest, I don’t even know if anyone will end up reading these, it’s just a way for me to get my action plan and analysis in place. Or at least, in a format I can come back and review next year.
But anyway. Here we go.
How can I implement “Lessons Learnt” for the third quarter of 2022
Just an important point here, I’m trying to stop saying “failures” and adapt my mindset to focus more on “lessons learnt”. It works for me. So I’m rolling with it.
Mindset and mentality
My business is not just a side hustle, it’s a creative company and I am developing it to give me financial freedom, and something I can be proud of.
I have to be protective of my business time and I will make sure I am taking more care in completing business tasks, without pushing myself into burnout.
Forward planning
For the future, I will create a list of all aspects of my business that I “need” to do, and what the “why” is behind each thing.
For example, I need to create book covers because I have to be able to generate another stream of income now I’m working part time.
At the same, scheduling each quarter in advance and blocking out my days off, so that I have a clear “meeting” schedule. This plays into my Futuristic strength.
Tracking progress
To make sure that I don’t get overwhelmed with the macro tasks, I will create a “Done” list so that I can monitor my Production, Growth and Development.
This means that I will be able to focus on the positives and the lessons learnt.
Homelife
We’re in a privileged position that we don’t have children or dependants, so I will make sure that I prioritise time each evening before days off to get some housework done.
This frees up the time for the next day, so my mind is focussed.
Targeting and Goals
One of the key adjustments is having a clear target goal (SMART) for each quarter, 1 for Production, 1 for Development and 1 for Growth.
I will also assess the goals I put in place at the start of 2022 to see what I have accomplished, and how I will tie those points into the planning for Q3 and Q4, considering holidays and time off/in at work.
In summary
Basically, I need to give myself permission to realise, it’s okay not to do everything. However, my mindset needs to shift if I’m going to grow the creative business I want for my future.
I’ll play to my strengths, keep track of my “lessons learnt” and understand that this isn’t a sprint, it’s a life-long marathon.
